What happens when I contact Quitline?
If you contact us by telephone you may well get the answerphone, please do not hang up, do leave a message. – your call is important to us.
If you are calling anytime between Monday morning and Saturday lunchtime we could well be in the building and may get back to you within the hour, we will always try to return your call within 24 hours.
If you have not heard from us please call again as occasionally we incorrectly hear your contact number.
If you prefer you can contact us by e-mail, via the form above we will get back to you as soon as possible however if you are wanting to make a one to one appointment we would prefer you contact us by telephone.
If you wish to come along to a drop in or group session and do not want, or need to speak to a Specialist beforehand you can just turn up, appointments are not necessary. Take a look at our Session Times.
If you want a one to one appointment it is necessary to telephone, please note there are very limited one to one appointments available over lunch times and in the evenings due to our regular sessions.
When you first come along to Quitline we will ask you to fill in a questionnaire which is completely confidential and gives us some information on your smoking and medical history, to help us to help you. Please do not hesitate to ask one of the Specialists to help you to fill in the questionnaire if necessary.

Your first session is very informal and will usually take between 30 and 50 minutes. The Specialist will give you information on the medications available and how to correctly use them. Will help you to make a decision on which is the best product for you and give you support and advice on planning to stop smoking and remain stopped. If you decide to use medication you will be given your first of up to 10 weeks supply of Nicotine Replacement Therapy, or a voucher to accompany a Doctors prescription for varenicline (Champix) or buproprion (Zyban) which allows you to obtain it at States prescription charge.
Follow up sessions last between 10 and 30 minutes –( if you are in a hurry we will always try to accommodate you.) They are again very informal but are a very important part of the support we offer and you do need to attend regularly.
